APRIL 2016
Reading
classes have really been busy learning more digraphs such as ow and ea,
diphthongs oi and oy, suffixes ñes, -er, and ñest. As you read each day
with your child, ask questions about what they have read aloud or what
they have heard you read to them. This helps with comprehension.
Setting, characters, problems and solutions are important parts of
stories. Choose one or two and ask your child to tell you what they
remember from the story.
Students
are busy adding and subtracting in math. Please help your child
improve his/her mental math skills by asking him/her simple math
questions he/she can do in his/her head. We are also practicing skip
counting. Encourage your child to practice skip counting by 2s, 5s, and
10s to 120 at home.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
First Grade Team
